Scoutinggroup Renatum 57 in brief

Welcome to the website of group Renatum 57. We are the youngest group in the city of Zwolle. We started our activities on the 14th of April 2007!

Who are we?
We are a full member of the Scouting association in the Netherlands (Scouting Nederland) and a part of the youthwork of the Salvation Army.

Scouting Nederland has more than 120,000 members, including the 30,000 volunteers who play an active part in the organisation. With a membership that includes both boys and girls, Scouting Nederland is the largest youth organisation in the Netherlands. Besides that we’re a part of the local corps (church) of the Salvation Army. That means we have, like we call it in the Netherlands, a Christian identity. Everyone can join our group. Just as in many other countries, the programme offers leisure activities that are adventurous, varied, educative and most importantly, fun. There are two more groups in the Netherlands with Salvation Army support. They are located in Almere and Dordrecht (Con Tutti and TESRA).

The local group…
Scouting Nederland has 1300 groups throughout the Netherlands. There are on average 30 groups in a region and 48 regions throughout the country. We as Renatum 57 are located in Zwolle, the most beautiful city in the Netherlands (writer is not objective…). The region we’re in is called “Overijsselse vechtstreek”. A nice region with water (the rivers IJssel, Vecht and Zwarte water), agricultural areas and forests.

Organisation of boys and girls
Scouting Nederland is a member of both the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS) and the World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM). While both boys and girls are members of Scouting Nederland, not all groups are mixed. There are separate units for boys and for girls as well as mixed units of both boys and girls. All members of Scouting Nederland are called scouts. We, as Renatum 57, made the choice to have mixed units of boys and girls together. At the moment we offer a programme for kids between 7-11 years old. We call them Welpen (Cubs). In January 2008 we started also with scouts (11-14).
